Peanut free!!

peanut allergies, allergens, food allergies, and Technology

About

As you are probably aware peanut allergies can be deadly, I am using this blog to provide information I receive from food manufacturers/restaurants regarding the use of peanut and or the possibility of cross contamination in their foods. All posts are actual emails I have received.

Do you have a child with a peanut allergy?, please leave a comment if you know of  peanut free foods that you have found.

Thanks

I am looking for chocolate chips for baking that are peanut-free. Can someone please recommend a brand? Thanks

    Hi Jenny,

We have been using Hersheys chocolate chips without any problems. We did call them and they did say they were made in a peanut free facility.

I also called Hershey’s. That could not confirm any single product to be peanut free, however, what they did say was that they take peanut allergies seriously and that the consumer needs to read each package prior to purchasing. If the label states a warning one time, it may not state it the next time. You need to read the labels each time you purchase one of their product. Don’t assume that it is peanut free just because their was no warning on a product one time. Each and every time they package a product it can have a possible warning or not.

We use the 365 brand from Whole Foods. We checked with them and they confirmed that they are made in a peanut-free facility. But, of course, double check.

Also, Vermont Nut Free Chocolates sell chocolate chips for baking on-line.

  4. I do not know how to reach the owner of this blog. I would like to share a great educational tool for those with peanut and tree nut allergies. The flashcards are called Beyond A Peanut – allergy flashcards. They help individuals learn that staying safe goes beyond the nut products. You can learn more about them at http://www.beyondapeanut.com Without checking with the owner I don’t want to provide to much information and “self promote”. You can contact me through my website. I would like to see how I can be listed as a resource. Flashcards are available on my website and Amazon.com This is a great blog! Thank you.
