Ben and Jerry’s response about the factory tour.

Posted by Dave on July 28, 2007

I recently inquired about whether or not it was safe to go on the factory tour in Vermont.

Here is the response I received.

Thanks for writing. We try to be as safety concious as we can be for folks with allergies on the tour. Nut warnings as well as cross contamination information is available at the tour sampling area, and if you let your guide know about your child’s allergy during the tour the staff can make certain that he/she won’t be or feel left out of ice cream sampling.

Thanks again for writing, and we hope to see you at the factory,

Ben & Jerry’s

Has anyone gone on this tour before, and did you feel they took the appropriate precautions with regard to allergens?

Response from Simon Candy Shop

Posted by Dave on July 25, 2007

The same company that makes College Farm Organic Nature Pops as seen on Food Tv’s Unwrapped.

Thank you for your inquiry.  We do not use any peanuts or nuts in our plant.  The Tropical Treat flavor of our Naturepops contains Coconut flavor, which I have always thought was classified as a fruit, but possibly could be included in the nut category.  We also use coconut oil in a few of our non-organic candies.

Fruitabü Twirls

Posted by Dave on March 14, 2007

Hello,

Thank you for contacting Stretch Island Fruit Company.

All of our products, with the exception of Fruitabü Twirls, do not contain any of the following allergens: milk, eggs, fish, crustacean shellfish, peanuts, tree nuts, wheat and soy.

The Fruitabü Twirls available in Smoooshed™ Grape, Smoooshed™ Apple and Smoooshed™ Strawberry contain soy ingredients.  This information may be found below the ingredient list on the Nutrition Facts back panel.

In addition, because product formulations can change at any time, we encourage our consumers to check the ingredient statement on each package they purchase for the most up-to-date information on the ingredients contained in that product.

If there was any chance of cross-contamination with any of the top eight allergens including peanuts and tree nuts, we are required to call it out on the package.

Our fruit leathers, flats and twirls are made with all natural yummy ingredients. We hope you enjoy them as much as we do!

Thanks again for e-mailing us.

Email response from McCormick Spices

Posted by Dave on November 7, 2006

Received on 11-7-2006

Dear McCormick Consumer:

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.  We appreciate your interest in our McCormick products and welcome the opportunity to be of assistance to you.

We are pleased to inform you McCormick does not use tree nuts or peanuts in any of our facilities.

We are aware of special allergies and intolerances to certain ingredients such as the following:

Peanuts                  Fish            Soy proteins            Sulfites
Tree nuts               Eggs            Wheat proteins   Yellow No. 5 & 6
Shellfish                 Milk             Red Pepper

As a responsible food company, our company follows the U.S. Food Drug & Cosmetic Act regulations to ensure consumer safety concerning food allergens.  We declare these ingredients on our label in the ingredient statement.  Federal regulations require us to list sulfites if they are over 10 parts per million, so we use that as our label declaration limit.  Because we are constantly improving our products, we encourage you to read the ingredient statement on our packages at the time of your purchase.

In addition, we follow good manufacturing practices at our plants.  Our employees are trained in the importance of correct labeling and the necessity of performing thorough equipment wash-downs to eliminate cross-contact of ingredients.

We invite you to sign up from our website to be a regular “My McCormick” user and receive our online newsletter with recipes and cooking tips.

If we can be of further assistance, please call us at 1-800-632-5847, Monday through Friday, 9:30AM to 5PM Eastern Time.  If you wish to respond to this note by e-mail, please include your name and e-mail address.

We hope to have the continued pleasure of serving you.

Sincerely,

Cheerios Web Response regarding the use of the 8 allergens

Posted by Dave on October 4, 2006

Thank you for contacting General Mills concerning ingredients in our products. As manufacturers and consumers, we understand your concern about potential allergens in the foods you eat. Our primary goal is to provide accurate information; and we believe this is best accomplished by referring to the specific ingredients listed on each product package. This is the most current information for your needs.

If one of our products contains any of the top 8 allergens (peanuts, tree nuts, dairy products, eggs, soy, wheat, crustaceans, and fish) or if it contains sesame, sunflower or mollusks, that ingredient is always listed in the ingredient panel, and also in bold letters just below the list of ingredients. If a product is exposed to any of these allergens in the manufacturing facility the allergen will be listed in bold in the ‘Contains Statement’ just below the list of ingredients. This list is your ingredient assurance for that package. It is not intended for other packaging of the same product. Ingredients may vary from one package to another due to product reformulation. If you have allergy concerns, please read each package ingredient panel.

We hope this information helps you. You may also want to contact the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network (FAAN) at 1-800-929-4040, or visit their web site at http://www.foodallergy.org. Although they cannot provide specific ingredient information regarding a particular product, they are a good resource to help in the management of your allergies and sensitivities.

We appreciate your interest. Please contact us again with any further questions or comments.

Sincerely,

Deanna Walker

Whole Food on why they dont have a peanut free diet section on their website

Posted by Dave on September 28, 2006

Email I sent to whole foods about peanut free products.

Hello ,

While browsing your website I noticed you have a special diets
section that includes gluten-free, wheat-free, dairy-free and so on.
Can you tell me why you do not have a special diet section for
peanut/nut free products.

Thanks
Response:

Thank you for contacting Whole Foods Market with your concerns. We truly
appreciate your feedback. These lists are created by our quality
standards and do take quite a bit of time to compile. We will forward
your request for a peanut/tree nut list to them for consideration.

Dunkin Donuts

Posted by Dave on May 1, 2006

Update to post: So much for peanut free, they now sell Peanutbutter cookies.  Thank you for taking the time to contact Dunkin’ Donuts.  We always appreciate hearing from our customers.  Our ingredients are peanut free.  As you may already know, our shops are individually owned and operated, therefore, the franchisee of a shop can add peanuts to their products if they wish.  Therefore, we suggest you contact your local shops to be sure the shop has remained peanut free.

At Dunkin’ Donuts we value our customers and are committed to making your visits to our stores a pleasant experience.  If we can be of any further service please feel free to call us toll free at 1-800-859-5339.

Thank you and have a great day.
